English - Program Distinctions

Majoring in English puts students at the center of Lindsey Wilson College's intellectual life. Our majors study traditional literary masterpieces in American and British literature alongside the works of new and emerging voices from the U.S. and around the globe. In addition, the program offers diverse courses such as Literary Cultures, Women Writers, Global Literature, Studies in Genre, Writing and Culture, and Advanced Writing. Seniors work closely with faculty members in completing their senior thesis, an original research-supported project. English majors may also apply to work as tutors in the Writing Center. A newly developed Preceptor program provides select students the opportunity to gain valuable exposure to teaching on the college level. Throughout the academic year our Sigma Tau Delta honor society students gather for social and professional development events. The English program also maintains close relationships with faculty and courses in Women's Studies, History, Political Science, and the Humanities.
