Biography:
I came to Lindsey in 2003 because I believed in its mission and
because of a statement written by President Luckey that read, "We
know who we are, and we know who we serve." My undergraduate
experience was also from a small college where I learned what
caring faculty can add to an education. I took a somewhat
roundabout path in arriving at Lindsey. Before my PhD, I
worked in the aerospace industry for five-and-a-half
years. I have taught since 1994 with a short
interruption to work with a children's museum and to do some
consulting work.
Outside of mathematics my main interests are in my family,
whitewater paddling and home improvement. My current project
is building a waterfall, river flow and cave in my backyard.
Mathematical modeling and numerical analysis are the areas in
mathematics that get most of my attention, although I would like to
learn more about the interaction between math, music and art.
My goal in the classroom is to make mathematics more accessible
to more people. I try to convey my enthusiasm for the wonders
of mathematics to our students. I especially enjoy showing
how today's technology can allow us to experiment with and to apply
all sorts of interesting structures in mathematics.
