Biography:
I came to Lindsey Wilson College in the spring of 1989 after
accepting a position as assistant professor of biology. The
position gave me the opportunity to build the biology program from
the ground up and support to finish my doctorate. I earned my
Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Arkansas in 1992 and since
then I continued to enjoy the opportunity to teach some of the
finest students of LWC. I am approaching my twentieth year of
teaching and look forward to another twenty.
One of the reasons I accepted a position at LWC was the natural
beauty of Appalachia. It didn't hurt to have a world class
trout river thirty minutes from the house. So yes, I fish a
lot and trout fishing has been one of my "outside the classroom"
interests for a long time. I also enjoy the hunting game and
this interest caused me to by a small farm which keeps me
busy. There is always something to fix on a farm.
My approach to teaching is I suppose follows a practical
philosophy. I simply try to remember what it was like sitting
in that chair, in the classroom, taking notes, and trying to
comprehend the professor's lesson. With this approach I try
to lay out a lesson plan in a student friendly way. It seems
to work. Additionally, I take pride in my demonstrations and
experimental laboratories. In short, they work.
I have been blessed with an administration that has been very
good at funding and supporting excellent laboratory
equipment. And so I have had the opportunity to continually
upgrade and supply an excellent learning environment.
