Biography:
Benson is no stranger to the Lindsey Wilson community. He served
in the Freshman Year Experience program from May 2004 to August
2012, first as an advisor and then as director starting in May
2006. His experience and familiarity with LWC establishes the
framework necessary to effectively lead, teach, and facilitate the
classroom. Benson is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Communication
Studies at the University of Kentucky while holding a M.A. in
Communication Studies from Western Kentucky University and a B.A.
in Communication Studies from Lindsey Wilson College.
Since 2007, Benson served as an adjunct instructor in the
Communication program at LWC, teaching Public Speaking,
Introduction to Communication, Interpersonal Communication, and
Organizational Communication. His research interests are in
interpersonal communication and instructional communication,
specifically focusing on the impact of faculty/student
relationships, in and out of class, on retention. One of his most
enjoyable experiences as an instructor is assisting students in
polishing their public speaking and communicative skills so they
become effective communicators in their future careers.
Benson is married to Kristin and they have two children, Luke
Aaron and Kate Elisabeth. He is a diehard UK and LWC basketball and
football fan, and enjoys golf, hunting and fishing, playing the
guitar, and singing.
