What is service
learning? Service learning is active learning in which students
further their understanding of course content by
reflecting on a service activities/project(s) to gain deeper
knowledge , a broader appreciation of the discipline, and an
enhanced sense of civic responsibility and
participating in organized service
activities/project(s) that meet needs identified by the
community
Why should you
participate in service learning classes? In a nutshell, you have an opportunity to learn more while
helping others!
Service learning courses provide an opportunity to put the
knowledge that students learn in class into action. Learning
by doing, followed by reflection often leads to a deeper
understanding of the class subject matter. Service learning
also allows faculty and students to work in partnership to make
positive contributions to our local and global communities by
addressing community interests and needs.
