Biography:

After successful, challenging careers in journalism and public relations, Anne Streeter decided to chuck the corporate world to attain a doctorate in communication from the University of Kentucky.  Her goal? To know more about what makes communication good - or competent - and why it often fails to accomplish its intended purpose. Her doctoral research centered on communication behaviors associated with the nursing handoff at the change of shift - a source of potential errors in patient care. She also wanted to teach, and is now an assistant professor at Lindsey Wilson College.

She spent more than 25 years working in healthcare in marketing and public relations. She was assistant vice president of work-life and marketing and public relations for Baptist Health South Florida, the largest non-profit, faith-based healthcare organization in the Miami area, when she decided to move to Kentucky to pursue the doctorate. At Baptist Health, she started out as a special events coordinator, and was promoted to increasingly responsible leadership positions. Thanks to her employer's generous tuition reimbursement program and encouragement, she earned her master's degree in business administration from Central Michigan University while working full time.

Her roots are in journalism, however, starting as a proofreader while in high school for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal in Lubbock, Tex. During college (Texas Tech), she worked as a reporter for the paper, switching to television news as a producer and reporter after graduation. A move to Hawaii led her to the Maui News where she was the Lahaina Bureau chief and a weekly columnist and reporter. She switched to public relations, accepting a position with Hyatt Hotels Hawaii, then moving to a public relations firm, followed by a stint at Hawaiian Telephone Company. Marriage took her to Key West and Miami, Florida, and to Baptist Health.

Dr. Streeter believes in giving back to one's profession and one's community. She's been involved in organizations such as Public Relations Society of America (former board member for Miami chapter), Women in Communication (former board member, Lubbock, Tex.), American Association of University Women (past president, Harlingen, Tex., chapter), Society for Healthcare Strategic Marketing and Development (active on national committees), National Communication Association, and Florida Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations (past president), as well as in non-profit organizations such as the Casey County Public Library and the National Patient Advocate Foundation. She is the recipient of several local and national awards in reporting, marketing and public relations. In addition to writing for numerous publications produced by employers, she also co-wrote Romance to Die For: The truth about women and AIDS, as well as two books on raising birds.

When not working, she enjoys time with her husband, family, friends, horses and pets; playing the occasional round of golf; and reading/listening to as many books as possible.
