International Walk Our Children to School Day A national event can be an amazing impetus for change in communities.  Through annual surveys, local Walk to School Day coordinators across the country have told us how a simple one-day event has led to great changes such as long-term walking and bicycling programs, new sidewalks and pathways, enforcement of unsafe driving behaviors and needed policy changes at schools and in communities.  Improvements that normally take a long time to institute can happen quickly when city officials walk or bicycle to school with students and see firsthand what needs to be done.Join families, schools and communities as they walk and bicycle to school for these events each year.

MCH Library.JPG This knowledge path about physical activity and children and adolescents has been compiled by the MCH Library at Georgetown University. It offers a selection of current, high-quality resources that analyze data, describe public health campaigns and other promotion programs, and report on research aimed at identifying promising strategies for improving physical activity levels within families, schools and after-school programs, child care and early childhood education settings, and communities. The knowledge path also provides resources about physical activity for children and adolescents with special health care needs. The knowledge path is aimed at health professionals, policymakers, child care providers, and community advocates. Separate briefs present resources for schools and families. Smart Mouth.JPG Smart-Mouth: Some have called the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) the "Food Police." The problems we try to solve are not usually crimes, but unsafe products, deceptive advertising, and laws that need to be changed. CSPI encourages Congress to pass new nutrition and food-safety laws, encourages government agencies to sponsor nutrition campaigns, and urges food companies to change the way they make, sell, and advertise food to make food safer and to make it easier for people to eat well and be more physically active.
