Informational Items:
- Alumni Trip to Paris (Sept. 12-19, 2010): 19 or 20 plan to
attend. All are excited about making the trip.
- Alumni Friends and Walkway Scholarship recipient is Michelle
Coomer
- Football Season is less than 60 days away. First game is Sept.
4. Season tickets and reserved seats are still available. First
game is against Notre Dame (Ohio) College. Additional information
is on the LWC website.
- Alumni Council Meeting minutes are posted on the website, but
will be labeled: "To be approved at the next council meeting." If
not already approved. As each set is approved, the label will be
removed and replaced with "Official."
- Next Alumni Council Meeting will be in the afternoon of Oct.
29, 2010, in the Cranmer Conference Room. Time is to be determined.
Council members will be notified by e-mail or post card.
- Alumni Giving rate for 2010 increase 20% over 2009's Alumni
Giving rate, but we are still well under the average giving level
for independent colleges. Currently, the giving level is 11.5-12%.
Our goal for 2010-11 fiscal year is 18-20% or "1,000 gifts for
2010-2011." To accomplish this, the Class Agent Program will be
implemented. Class agents will communicate with fellow members of
his/her graduating class to provide updates about the college as
well as classmates. At the same time, agents will encourage giving.
The higher the percentage, the better ranking through the U.S.
News & World Report on Independent Colleges. The higher
the ranking, the better LWC's chances of receiving grants. Another
idea is a phonathon; students and alumni will make the calls.
Old Business:
- Area Events were well-attended!
i.
April: LWC Day at Keeneland Race Track in Lexington, Ky.
ii.
June: Louisville Event: Hors d'ouevres at Vencenzo's and Theatre
production of
the musical, Legally Blond.
iii.

on
the party deck.
- Columbia Community Service Day will be coupled with the
National Day of Service on Sept. 11. Anyone interested in
participating can go to the website for more information.
While discussing this event, it was decided that we need to
develop a monthly alumni newsletter that will go out via e-mail to
inform alumni of past and future events.
- Golden Alumni Society Event was a success. Eight members of the
Class of 1960 attended. They processed with other graduates.
Class of 1960 wore gold caps and gowns, and Class for 2010 work
black caps and gowns. Golden Alumni received a medallion to
commemorate the occasion. Next year, the plan is to have a
medallion breakfast, graduation, then a reception.
New Business:

qualifications, but consideration was also given to each
