Minutes
- Welcome and opening prayer was given by Carrie Farris.
- Minutes from the previous meeting (July 14, 2010) were approved
as presented.
- Randy Burns gave an update on the following informational
items:
- Homecoming Weekend Schedule
- Alumni Travel Program
i. Review of the Paris trip (Sept.
2010)
ii. Travel Opportunity 2011 - We are
looking at the possibility of having two travel opportunities for
2011. One being a 10 day trip to Ireland and the second one
being a 4-5 day bus trip to Washington, DC.
- Update on Alumni Walkway Endowed Scholarship
i. The current value of the endowment
is $9,355.75. The amount must reach $10,000 to be fully
endowed.
ii. The recipient of the 2010-11
scholarship is Ms. Michelle Coomer. Ms. Coomer attended the
meeting and gave a heartfelt "thank you" to the alumni association
for the scholarship.
- Golden Alumni Society
i. December 2010 Event - December 11,
2010. This will be the second group that has participated in
the Golden Alumni Society.
ii. May 2011 Event - Class of 1961 -
May 14, 2011
- LWC Area Alumni Events
i. Review of July Bowling Green Hot
Rod Event - Very successful event. More than 50 people
attended the event.
ii. February 2011 Kentucky Performing
Arts Center Event
iii. April 2011 - LWC day at
Keeneland
- Class Agent Program Update
- Alumni Support Update
- Student Alumni Relations Council (SARC) - President Amanda
Cecil shared her vision for SARC.
- Old Business
- Alumni Community Service Day - The following council members
volunteered to host a LWC day of service in their communities:
Monica Johnson - Lexington area
Susan Eisenback - Louisville area
Becky Bragg - Bowling Green area
- New Business
- Participation Eligibility for Golden Alumni Society Events -
the council discussed the purpose and spirit of the Golden Alumni
Society. Since diplomas are not being issued, the council
agreed that the ceremony is to recognize anyone who attended
LWC and not necessarily a graduate of LWC. The LWC
experience is a positive cornerstone in a lot of people's lives who
attended here and it served as a stepping stone to the next phase
of their careers.
- Motion was made by Gary Lane and seconded by Gary Franklin to
form a Nomination Committee for Alumni Awards. Any member of
the LWC alumni association can nominate an individual for an alumni
award, however, the committee's responsibility will be to narrow or
expand the nominations in order to present the ballot to the
council for the award recipient selection process.
The committee will consist of the following members:
Alumni Director, President, President Elect, Immediate Past
President, Secretary, representative at large from Alumni Council,
and LWC Vice President for Development or his/her designee
- Alumni Council Executive Board Transitions/Elections
i. Rebekah Bragg was recognized for
her six year commitment for serving two years each as President
Elect, President and Immediate Past President.
ii. Carrie Farris will be
transitioning to Immediate Past President.
iii. Dr. Gary Lane will be
transitioning to President
iv. Elections were held for the
following positions:
- President Elect - elected by acclamation was Monica Johnson.
- Two year term
- Will become "President" at end of 2nd year
- Will serve as "Immediate Past President" on Exec. Board
following 4th year.
- Must have been an ACTIVE member of the council for the past
year.
- Secretary - re-elected by acclamation was Bonnie Greenwalt.
- Two year term
- Must have been an ACTIVE member of the council for the past
year.
- The next meeting will be held at LWC on Wednesday, February 16,
at noon.
