Homecoming 2009

Get ready for the inaugural campuswide Homecoming Raider Games. Students from each residence hall will compete for a chance to be crowned Raider Games Champions. Raider Games is a week of games and competitions between teams made up of the residents of LWC.  The event culminates on Saturday evening with the presention of the Raider Games trophy, Blue Raider Bob's saber, which will then be housed in the office of the winning dorm's resident director for the rest of the school year!

Scoring system for Raider Games: 

Individual Events (I)
First Place -- 3 points
Second Place -- 2 points
Third Place -- 1 point

Team Events (T) (unless otherwise noted)
First Place -- 7 points
Second Place -- 5 points
Third Place -- 3 points

Most events are co-ed; some events will be held as men's teams vs. men's teams and women's teams vs. women's teams (such events are noted with "M/W").  Apartment teams made up of men and women will choose which bracket to compete in.

 

Raider Games Schedule
Sunday, Nov. 1 -- Raider Games Kick-Off

Head to the Carlle Student Union Building and enjoy a fireworks show sponsored by the LWC Student Government Association and the Development Office. Teams will submit Raider Games rosters at this event. Hotdogs, chips and soft drinks will be served.

Monday, Nov. 2 -- Let the Games Begin!

  • 8 a.m. CT -- Judging for residence hall-decorating contest (more information coming soon). (10-7-4)
  • 11 a.m. CT -- Fungo Golf (I)
    • Location: A.P. White Campus fungo golf course
    • Supplies: Players provide clubs, Alumni will provide tennis balls
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Players must initial their ball before play begins
      • Low score wins
      • Tie breaker will be a "one shot, closest to the pin drive."

  • Noon CT -- Pizza-Eating Contest (I) - (M/W)
    • Location: Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center
    • Rules 
      • Each participants is given five minutes to consumer two large cheese pizzas. First person to eat both pizzas or the most pieces in five minutes is winner. 
      • Crusts must be eaten for a slice to count.
      • One eater per team.

  • 1 p.m. CT -- Cheetos Head (I)
    • Location: Campus Quadrangle
    • Rules
      • Two players per team
      • One teammate wears hair net, covered with shaving cream
      • Teammates stand 15 feet apart
      • Teammate with Cheetos throws Cheetos, one at a time, toward teammate's head for ONE minute.
      • Cheetos head player cannot move feet but can move rest of body to catch Cheetos with hands behind back.
      • A Cheeto will be removed each time the Cheetos head's feet move.
      • A count will be made at the end of the minute to determine winners.

  • 2 p.m. CT -- Twister (I)
    • Location: Cralle SUB
    • Rules: Regular Twister rules apply
      • One player per team
      • Players will randomly draw to determine playing order in each round
      • First player to win three rounds will be determined the winner, second player to win three rounds will be second-plance winner, third player to win three rounds will be third-place winner

  • 2:30 PM-Tug Of War (T 10-7-4) (M/W)
    • Location: Campus Quadrangle
    • Rules
      • Total weight of men's team may not exceed 2,000 pounds
      • Total weight of women's team may not exceed 1,200 pounds
      • Standard tug of war rules apply
      • Participants cannot wear cleats or spiked shoes (must wear standard tennis shoes)
      • Participants are encouraged to wear gloves

 Tuesday, Nov. 3
(Unless noted, all events will take place in Cralle SUB)

  • Noon CT -- Rootbeer-Chugging Contest (I) (M/W)
    • Location: Robert D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Contestants must drink three 12-ounce cans of root beer
      • Order of completion determines winner
      • Participants cannot interfere with other participants

  • 3 p.m. CT -- Pingpong (I) (M/W)
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Standard pingpong rules apply
      • Single-elimination tournament (best 2-out-of-3 sets)

  • 6 p.m. CT -- Family Feud (T)
    • Rules
      • Five players per team
      • Standard TV version rules apply (a judge will be present for game play decisions on validity of an answer; judge's decision final)
      • Answers based on survey of 100 Blue Raiders
      • Tournament-style, single-elimination bracket
      • Each game will consist of three rounds (third-round value of points doubled)

  • 6:30 p.m. CT -- Monopoly (I)
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Standard Monopoly rules apply
      • 90-minute time limit per game.  At the 90-minute mark, remaining players' money total will determine top three finishers. Stalling is not allowed.
      • If three players aren't remaining in the game after 90-minute mark, order of elimination will determine top three finishers.

  • 6:30 p.m. CT -- Trivial Pursuit (I)
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Standard rules for long-play game
      • First player to complete game wins
      • Play will continue until second and third places are determined

  • 7 p.m. CT -- Taboo (I)
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Standard rules apply
      • Order will be randomly drawn prior to beginning of the game
      • Play will continue until all three places are determined
      • A judge will operate the buzzer. All judge's decisions are final.

  • 7 p.m CT -- Guitar Hero (I)
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Each player will play the same two randomly selected songs
      • Each player must play on the "hard" level (third-most difficult)
      • Winner will be determined by combining point totals from two songs

  • 7:30 p.m. -- Apples to Apples (I)
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • First player to obtain six cards wins
      • Play will continue until second and third place are decided
      • Players CANNOT talk during a player's selection process

  • 7:30 p.m. --  Pong (I)
    • Rules
      • Double-elimination tournament
      • Standard Pong rules apply
      • One player per team

  • 8 p.m. CT -- Rook (I)
    • Rules
      • Two players per team
      • Standard rules apply for 120 point game (Rook only)
      • No "table talk"
      • Double-elimination tournament
      • Games go to 300 points, no nils, no "shooting the moon"

  • 8 p.m. CT -- Pool (nine ball) (I)
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Standard nine-ball rules in play
      • Double-elimination tournament

  • 8 p.m. CT -- Dodge Ball (T) (M/W)
    • Location - Biggers
    • Rules
      • 6 players per team
      • Standard dodge ball rules
      • Single-elimination tournament

 
Wednesday, Nov. 4

  • 2:30 p.m. CT -- Cycling Race (I)
    • Location: Campus Quadrangle
    • Rules
      • One rider per team
      • Two preliminary heats, followed by final heat

  • 2:30 p.m. CT -- Academic Pentathlon (I)
    • Location: Cralle SUB conference room
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Five tests (math, history, English, science, LWC info)
      • Each contestant will be given a test with multiple-choice, true-false, and fill-in-the-blank questions
      • Contestants will have five minutes to complete questions
      • Contestants will then immediately be given a different test with the same boundaries
      • No cheating, no use of calculators, no mobile phones, etc.
      • For each correct answer contestants will receive 2 points; for each incorrect answer contestants will lose 1 point.  Blank answers are not counted.

  • 4 p.m. CT -- Speech competition (I)
    • Location: TBA
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Each contestant will give a six- to eight-minute speech about "The Importance of Homecoming at LWC"
      • Judges will use judging procedures used in other speech competitions. Judges' decisions are final.

  • 5:30 p.m. CT -- Scavenger Hunt (I)
    • Location: All over A.P. White Campus, but contestants will leave from V.P. Henry Auditorium at 5:30 p.m. CT and return to V.P. Henry Auditorium no later than 6:30 p.m. CT.
    • Rules
      • Three people per team
      • Teams have one hour to collect as many items on the list as possible and return to the V.P. Henry Auditorium stage no later than 6:30 p.m. CT.
      • Teams CANNOT have others bring items to them. Team members must COLLECT items.

  • 7 p.m. CT -- Writing Contest (I)
    • Location: Contestants will submit writing samples to Randy Burns by 7 p.m. CT in V.P. Henry Auditorium
    • Rules
      • One writer per team
      • Contestants may write poetry or prose, but the piece must be no more than 500 words
      • Contestants must write about the theme "LWC, Our Home"

  • 8:30 p.m. CT -- Kickball (T) (M/W)
    • Location: TBA
    • Rules
      • 10 players per team
      • Standard kickball rules apply
      • Nine-inning games
      • Single-elimination tournament

 

Thursday, Nov. 5

  • 2 p.m. CT -- Field Day Events (I) ("Flash Back to Fifth Grade Day!")
    • Location: Aevents to take place on Campus Quadrangle
    • Events include:

      • Egg Toss (2 players)
      • Sack Race (1 player)
      • Wheelbarrow Race (2 players)
      • Three-Legged Race (2 players)
      • Watermelon Seed-Spitting contest (1 spitter)
  • Rules
    • Standard field day rules apply. Any variations will be determined by point person and conveyed to competitors before event begins.

  • 8:30 p.m, CT -- H-O-R-S-E Competition (I)
    • Location: Biggers Sports Center
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Order will be randomly drawn before competition begins
      • Play will continue until last person remains with the final three participants being 1, 2, and 3.
      • Players must clearly call specifics before shot is made; for example; bank, bounce, hook, etc.

  • 8:30 p.m. CT -- 3-on-3 Basketball (T) (M/W)
    • Location: Biggers Sports Center
    • Rules (standard 3 on 3 rules)
      • 4 players per team roster
      • 24 by 4
      • Made three-point shots scored as three point
      • Must take defensive rebounds out beyond three-point line

 

Friday, Nov. 6

  • 10 a.m. CT -- Badminton (I)
    • Location: Campus Quadragle
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Standard badminton rules (double-elimination tournament)

  • 10 a.m. CT -- Cornhole (I)
    • Location: Campus Quadragle
    • Rules
      • Two players per team
      • Standard rules apply (double-elimination tournament)

  • 11:30 a.m. CT -- Marshmallow Popper (I)
    • Location: Cranmer Dining & Conference Center
    • Rules
      • Each team will have two players.
      • Each team will, one team at a time, stand 20 feet from each other with one team member shooting marshmallow into teammate's mouth. Twenty marshmallows will be shot.
      • Top three finishers will be determined by the number of marshmallows caught in the mouth. 
      • Tie-breaker will be determined by a "sudden death" single shot shoot out.

  • Noon CT -- Cup Stack Race (I) (as in "Meatballs" and not the speed race)
    • Location: Cranmer Dining & Conference Center
    • Rules
      • One stacker per team
      • 20 tea cups (10 per stacker)
      • Two tables, 20 feet apart will hold five cups each for two stackers
      • Contestant will stand at one table, pick up a cup and walk it to the other table where it will be stacked another cup inside the one in their hand and walk back to the other table and do the same thing.  Play will continue until after 10 cups are stacked or until stack falls.
      • Stackers CANNOT touch cups with "off hand" other than placing another cup on top of the stack. 
      • Stackers CANNOT interfere with opponent.
      • Winner will be determined by stacker who successfully stakes the most cups
      • If multiple stackers stack all 10 cups, winner is the one who reaches the table on the last lap first.
      • Single-elimination tournament format

  • 4 p.m. CT -- Team Charitable Fundraising Drive (T 10-7-4)
    • Location: Teams must turn in total money raised in fundraising drive no later than 4 p.m. CT at the Sue Craven Stivers Alumni House.
    • Rules
      • Teams select which charity to support (charity must be approved by the teams RD)
      • Fundraising cannot begin until Nov. 1
      • Teams are encouraged to support local charities but are not restricted to region

  • 4 p.m. CT -- Seven Card Texas Hold 'Em (I)
    • Location: Cralle SUB couch area
    • Rules
      • One player per team
      • Standard seven-card hold 'em rules
      • Each player begins with $10,000 worth of chips
      • Play will go until one person remains
      • Two-hour time limit at which time chips will be counted and the top three dollar amounts place first, second and third.

  • 6 p.m. CT -- Beach Volleyball (T) (M/W)
    • Location: Sand volleyball court next to water tower
    • Rules
      • Four players per team
      • Standard beach volley ball rules
      • Single-elimination tournament (best out of three sets)

  •   10 p.m. CT -- "The Rally in the Valley" Bonfire (Bonus Points)
    • Location: Valley next to Walter S. Reuling Soccer Stadium
    • Rules
      • Team with the most people at pep rally will receive five (5) bonus points for the competition


Saturday, Nov. 7

  • 8 a.m. CT -- 5K Run/Walk (I)
    • Location: Start/finish line will be located behind Horton Complex
    • Rules
      • One runner per team
      • Bonus Point Ppportunity: For every three runners entered beyond the initial representative, that team will receive one bonus point. (Cost: $5 per student. Team representative for Raider Games is free.)
    • 10 p.m . CT -- Homecoming Dance and Announcement of Dorm Wars 2009 Champions
