Phi Beta Lambda Winners

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- A group of Lindsey Wilson College business students recently earned statewide recognition for their work.

Members of the Lindsey Wilson chapter of Phi Beta Lambda business fraternity won several honors at the Kentucky Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference, held April 7-8 at Madisonville Community College. The competition included more than 150 students from Kentucky colleges and universities.

The winners from the state competition will move on to the national competition, which will be held at the end of June in Anaheim, California.

LWC Associate Professor of Business Trudy Morlino said the LWC students' performance is a testament to the strength of the LWC business division.

"Attending this conference and winning is a great accomplishment," said Morlino, who is also the chapter's advisor. "The students are able to use what they have learned in the classroom and put it into practice."

Morlino said LWC students benefit from engaging with peers from other institutions who are succeeding in comparable fields.

"The students test their knowledge by competing against others who are excelling in business related subjects. And for the most part, LWC students realize that what they are being taught is on the right track."

Hannah Morrison of Edmonton, Ky., who earned first and second place finishes in business ethics, and organization behavior and leadership, respectively, said the students who attended the conference were prepared and ready to compete.

"We took a great amount of pride in the topics we chose this year," said Morrison. "We decided how we could apply our strengths based on our interests and then put all of our energy into the research and preparation."

And Morrison says she is not surprised by the outstanding performance of the LWC chapter.

"We were prepared to do well. Everyone who attended from the LWC chapter placed in competition. It was an encouraging experience. We were all very excited."

And she says her experience with Phi Beta Lambda has enhanced her education at Lindsey Wilson College.

"The competition took me out of my comfort zone, but that alone helped me to grow in confidence and as an individual - I owe that to my involvement with Phi Beta Lambda. Especially as I think about competing for jobs after graduation."
