LWC Journalists Win Record Number of Awards

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Staff members of
RaiderView, the student newspaper of Lindsey Wilson
College, dominated recent statewide competition, receiving an
unprecedented 43 awards at the annual Kentucky Intercollegiate
Press Association Conference, held Jan. 25-26 in Louisville,
Ky.
The awards, which recognize journalistic excellence at Kentucky's
colleges and universities, were for work published in 2012.
The contest was judged by media professionals representing several
major newspapers, including the Orlando Sentinel,
Louisville Courier-Journal, and Miami
Sun-Sentinel. Judges this year also included Pulitzer
Prize-winner Walt Stricklin of the Birmingham (Ala.)
News.
LWC students earned 17 first-place awards, 12 second-place
finishes, 10 third-place honors, and four honorable mentions. The
RaiderView staff also swept entire categories in both
writing and design areas, including the coveted feature writing
category. LWC students also finished strong in the sports and
photojournalism categories.
RaiderView staff members who received awards include the

Ohio; Amie Dockery of Russell Springs, Ky.; Kacie Goode of
Bardstown, Ky.; Matthew Hicks of Columbia; Chantal Livesay of
Scottsville, Ky.; Jeremy Meadows of Berea, Ky.; Madison Mills of
Owensboro, Ky.; Ryan Mitchell of Columbia; John Overby of
Jamestown, Ky.; Nick Schrager of Lebanon, Ky.; Kendall Sewell of
Somerset, Ky.; and Judah Taylor of Somerset, Ky.
