LWC students Audrianna Clark of Lebanon, Ky., and
Brandon Wood of Columbia rehearse for the Nov. 19 children's
production of
Cinderella. Clark plays Cinderella,
and Wood plays the Prince.
COLUMBIA, Ky. -- A children's play isn't just
for children.
In the mind of LWC Associate Professor of Communication Susan
Minton, the story of Cinderella is a timeless escape for adults
and children alike "from what might be a bad day."
Students in Minton's theater classes will perform
Cinderella 7 p.m. CT Thursday, Nov. 19, in Lindsey Wilson
College's V. P. Henry Auditorium. The performance -- which will
come after two days of performing it for area school children -- is
free and open to the public.
For a few minutes, Cinderella, run ragged by her famously wicked
step-sisters and step-mother, can have a bad day and audience
members can watch.
"Cinderella is my favorite fairytale of them all, and
most children's favorite," Minton said. "We want to expose the
community, its children and the student body at Lindsey Wilson
College to children's theater. We want audience members to
recapture a part of childhood they may have forgotten, or perhaps
hadn't experienced before"
Minton said the performance of Cinderella is "an
opportunity for the student body to come out and support their
fellow students and relax, all on a college student's budget."
Young and old can "let their guard down and experience the wonders
of theater. And perhaps learn a lesson or two along the way," she
said.
Minton's theater students while be joined by students from her
"Freshman Experience" class, who will be the evening's opening
act.
In a series of brief skits, the "Freshman Experience" students
will reenact incidents that had happened to them or to others
during the semester.
In the best tradition of the theater, "our student players will
have the chance to touch lives," Minton said. "They'll learn that
acting is more than just being in a play."
