COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College
Athletic Director Willis Pooler, left, presents a facsimile check
Thursday morning to Sgt. Dakota Meyer for the Marine Corps
Scholarship Foundation. LWC raised $1,120 at Saturday night's
LWC-Campbellsville (Ky.) University football game, played at Blue
Raider Stadium.
Meyer has partnered with the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation
to raise $1 million by the Foundation's 50th anniversary on May 28,
2012. Meyer has also issued a "Challenge to America" to match his
efforts and raise an additional $1 million to honor Marines by
educating their children.
The challenge allows Americans to help wounded Marines from all
conflicts -- especially the past 10 years -- and forever change
their lives by investing in a Marine student's future.
A native of Southcentral Kentucky, Meyer was awarded the Medal
of Honor earlier this month by President Obama.
A Columbia-Adair County community celebration to honor Meyer is
planned for 2 p.m. CT on Sunday, Oct. 2. For more information, go
