COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Joel Peterson has landed a
dream job at Lindsey Wilson College.
Peterson had been named director of the Doris and Bob Holloway Health & Wellness
Center and has been charged with opening the building -- the
largest in the college's 107-year history.

Joel Peterson says the Doris and Bob Holloway Health
& Wellness Center provides lots
of opportunities for student involvement.
And Peterson said he is excited to be at Lindsey Wilson.
"I like Lindsey Wilson very much," Peterson said. "The people
have been friendly and supportive of what I'm trying to do."
The 73,223-square-foot Holloway Health & Wellness Center
features an indoor track; three basketball courts; a racquetball
court; an eight-lane swimming pool with a rock-climbing wall; a
recreational pool; 40-person hot tub; recreational areas;
cardiovascular area; and a weight-lifting room.
Peterson said he wants the Holloway Health & Wellness Center
to be primarily run by students because it provides lots of
opportunities for them to get involved.
"My goal is to get students involved and to provide as many on
campus jobs for them as I can," Peterson said. "This is going to be
a great opportunity for them to be involved in something that will
benefit the campus community and public as well."
Peterson wants the Holloway Center to be a community
asset.
"My main goal is to always support the Lindsey Wilson College
community and provide as many recreational opportunities as we
can," Peterson said. "Starting off, we will be open 95 hours a
week. We will open at 6 a.m. every Monday through Friday, and we
will be open on Saturday and Sunday as well.
"I'd love to eventually see the facility open 100 hours a week
and provide programs such as exercise classes and
learn-to-swim-program-type stuff to the community at large."
A native of Peoria, Ill., Peterson, 38, completed his undergrad
at University of Wisconsin-Superior in exercise science in 2003. He
then worked at the university as a recreation specialist. He
covered areas such as outdoor adventures, intramurals, pool and the
recreation facility. Peterson is completing a master's degree in
recreation, sports and tourism from the University of Illinois.
Peterson and his wife, Wendy, have a newborn son, Aiden.
