COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College community will celebrate its connection to The United Methodist Church on Wednesday with two special events.

Church College Celebration Day will be held at 2:30 p.m. CT in V.P. Henry Auditorium, 210 Lindsey Wilson St.

Then at 7 p.m. CT the Lindsey Wilson Concert Choir and Lindsey Wilson Singers will perform "Earth, Wind, Fire & Water: A Concert Based on Personality Profiles in The Four Elements of Success by Laurie Beth Jones." The concert will be at Columbia United Methodist Church, 202 Burkesville St.

Both events are free and open to the public.

"Church College Celebration Day is a day each fall when the Lindsey Wilson community comes together to celebrate its Methodist heritage and discusses what it means to be a church-related college," said LWC President William T. Luckey Jr., who has been the college's eighth president since 1998.

Lindsey Wilson was founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South in 1903 as a training school for Vanderbilt University. The school has remained part of the Methodist Church throughout its evolution into a junior college and then into a liberal arts college with graduate programs. In 1939, the Methodist Episcopal Church, South reunited with the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Methodist Protestant Church to form the The Methodist Church. The Methodist Church merged with the Evangelical United Brethren Church in 1968 to form The United Methodist Church.

At the Wednesday night concert, audience members can take a personality test while enjoying the music.

"We're going to actually allow the audience to take a bit of a personality profile test to determine whether their personality is more like earth, wind fire or water, and so therefore our repertoire is music about earth, wind, fire and water," said LWC Director of Choral Activities Gerald Chafin.

Chafin said the Lindsey Wilson Singers will perform "unusual things, like a piece called 'Lightning' where we depict a rainstorm and we've got strobe lights that flash."

"Unusual meters and rhythms are part of that piece," he said.

LWC student Hannah Warren of Columbia -- who is a member of both choral ensembles -- said performing the song "Lightning" is "quite the workout."

"It really stretches us," she said. "But it's neat how it works to depict a thunderstorm and the craziness with that."
