"Lindsey Writes Confidently for Communication, Career
and Community"
Lindsey Writes, isa
writing across the curriculum program that impacts undergraduate
students at the College's A.P. White Campus. Lindsey
Writes is also Lindsey Wilson College's Quality
Enhancement Plan (QEP) for the College's 2013
reaccreditation. Lindsey Writes includes three
components:
1) the Writing in the Core Initiative, which focuses on
writing to learn in core general education courses;
2) the Writing in the Disciplines Initiative, which
focuses on developing writing skills specific to the student's
major discipline;
3) the Writing for Life Initiative, which incorporates
writing-focused activities and skills.
Lindsey Writes provides training for
faculty in the use of writing to learn strategies and in techniques
for teaching students how to write in their disciplines. The
program is also training students to serve as writing
fellows--writing tutors/mentors who are assigned to assist faculty
teaching specific writing intensive courses. Addtionally, the
program is training writing advocates--students who volunteer to
promote Lindsey Writesat various campus events.
An assessment component uses multiple tools to measure
progress in student learning outcomes and the effectiveness of the
program. The College launched this high-impact five-year
educational program in January 2013.
