Instructions for online sessions

The LWC Writing Center offers online sessions to students and faculty at extended campuses and those working in online courses.  Free 30-minute sessions are available Mon - Thu, 10:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m., Central Time.  Using the Writing Center can help you prepare for an essential component of the academic writing process -- peer review.  Professors and published authors engage their colleagues in peer review to learn what their writing does to readers -- from global aspects like purpose and order of ideas, right down to punctuation choices.  No one writes alone.  LWC Writing consultants are here to offer feedback at any point during the writing process so you can make informed decisions about your work.  Although the Writing Center does not edit students' writing for them, we can point out error patterns and explain style and grammar standards.  Here is how LWC Writing Center online sessions work:

Step 1:   E-mail the Writing Center (, with the following:

  1. Your paper attached (as much as you have written)
  2. A description of the project
  3. Your thoughts about your writing so far on the project
  4. A time (Central) you would like to talk over the phone with a consultant (at least 24 hours after sending your paper)
  5. The number of a phone you can use during your session
  6. Your course and professor's name.

Step 2:   Receive a reply.  When we have received these items, you will get a message in your Lindsey Gmail account confirming your appointment.

Step 3:   Talk with your writing consultant.   When it is time for your phone session, please have your paper in front of you and your student ID handy.  Your consultant will call you at the number you provided in your initial message.  (Since Gmail uses California phone numbers, a California number may appear on your caller ID.)  After your session, we will notify your professor that the session took place.
