Mission Statement

The mission of the legal studies certificate program is to prepare those students interested in law school for the rigors of this experience.  It does this by providing students with many of the skills they will need while in law school, with courses that will hone their analytical, writing, and rhetorical abilities.  The certificate also introduces students to the legal field by requiring them to take a variety of legal studies classes examining business law, constitutional law, international law, and criminal law.

Certificate Requirements:  18-30 hours

In addition to the general education requirements and a major, to be eligible for this certificate, students must complete its prerequisites (if necessary), its Legal Skills, Analytical Skills, Writing Skills, and Rhetorical Skills requirements.

Students should note that the certificate contributes between six and 15 hours toward the required 39 hours of 3000-4000 level coursework.
