2024 Homecoming Alumni Award Recipient
B.J. Burnett - Honorary Alumnus
Few people have served Lindsey Wilson College more faithfully than B.J. Burnett. B.J. recently retired from the college's Board of Trustees after more than three decades of service. During his time on the board, he was always known as a man who was prepared and committed to fulfilling the mission of the college through the decisions that were made. B.J. was born in McCracken County, Kentucky, where he was one of eight children. Most of his early years were spent helping on the farm and attending school. After graduating high school, he went on to Murray State University and graduated in 1954. Then, B.J. entered the U.S. Army from 1954-56, where he was stationed in Germany. He attended the University of Kentucky and obtained a master's degree in economics in 1958. After graduating, B.J. worked for the purchasing department at the University of Kentucky and then in the Chancellor's office where he reported to the president. Later B.J. served as a business officer for the Kentucky Community College System. He retired in 1992. B.J. and his wife Hilma, have a beautiful family and love attending church at Centenary Methodist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. He also enjoys tennis, gardening, boating, studying the bible, playing bridge and watching UK basketball. It was no surprise when in 2004 B.J. started the B.J. & Mary Burnett Endowed Scholarship at Lindsey Wilson. B.J. has served the college well and his contributions continue to bless Lindsey Wilson to this very day.
