Legendary Lindsey Wilson College Administrator Honored At Field Naming Ceremony

Columbia, Ky. -- The contributions of one of Lindsey Wilson College's legendary administrators was celebrated Friday morning during a dedication and naming service.
The Blue Raider Softball field received a new name and a plaque at The Marilyn D. Sparks Park Dedication Service on Friday, April 21. The dedication service honored the memory of Marilyn D. Sparks who served as a college administrator from 1984 to 1987. Sparks was a faithful supporter of the Blue Raider Softball Program and also helped to champion the phrase "active caring and Christian concern" which is part of the Lindsey Wilson College mission statement.
During his comments at the service, LWC President William T. Luckey remembered Sparks' passion and commitment to the college and it's mission.
"The late Marilyn Sparks and her husband Joe have meant so much to this college for decades," said Luckey. "I remember serving with Marilyn when we were both vice presidents at the college under then President John B. Begley. She was ferociously passionate about our mission and helping students. We started softball in the spring of 1987 and Marilyn was a big part of that decision as well."
"Joe what a beautiful way to honor the love of your life and our friend, Marilyn D. Sparks. Thank you for being so generous with your time, talents and your treasure."
Joe Sparks, husband of Marilyn Sparks and a loyal LWC softball fan, said that Marilyn's values shaped her time at the college.
"She was a great person, I don't know any other way to put it," said Sparks. "Lindsey Wilson College is a big part of this community and it means a lot to everyone here and Marilyn knew that. She wanted to help every student that she could while she was here. Because Marilyn was a dedicated methodist and had a love for education, Lindsey Wilson College became a wonderful place for her to express what she believed in."
