Six to be Honored at LWC's 86th Homecoming Weekend

COLUMBIA, KY - Six alumni of the college will be honored at Lindsey Wilson College's 86th homecoming weekend, to be held Oct. 20-21. LWC Homecoming 2017

The weekend will feature several reunions, including reunions of the college’s wrestling and baseball alumni, the LWC Singers and a reunion for the faculty and alumni of the LWC communication program.

LWC will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of the John B. Begley Chapel on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 10:45 a.m. CT. Chancellor and the sixth President of LWC, Dr. John B. Begley will speak at the celebration.

“It’s hard to imagine that it’s been 20 years since this beautiful building was dedicated in honor of our former president, Dr. John Begley,” said LWC Director of Alumni Relations Randy Burns. “It is our honor for Dr. Begley to speak at this historic service. There is no doubt that it will be a special event for current students as well as for alumni of the last 20 years.”

LWC 2017 Homecoming will also feature the inaugural Homecoming Alumni Day of Service, Saturday Oct. 21 from 8-10 a.m. CT at the LWC Bonner House, 203 Lindsey Wilson Street. Those participating will take part in small service projects which will include tying blankets for JOY Ministries Crisis Resource Center and creating supply kits for Operation Christmas Child.

“The Alumni Day of Service is a chance for alumni to reconnect with the spirit of service that is so central to our mission here at LWC.” said Bonner Program Director Natalie Vickous. “I’ve had countless alumni tell me how much they miss the opportunities to serve they experienced during their time at Lindsey. Not only can alumni reconnect with how impactful service can be, but current students can serve alongside alumni and learn from the wisdom alums have to offer.”

At the Alumni Awards & Athletic Hall of Fame Celebration, three alumni will be inducted into the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame and three individuals will be honored by the LWC National Alumni Association. The event will be held at 11 a.m. CT, Saturday, Oct. 21 in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center, 430 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, Ky.

“This is the centerpiece of the homecoming schedule each and every year,” said Burns.“We are so proud to honor each of these alumni for their love and support of Lindsey Wilson College, but also for the incredible success that they’ve had at going out and making a difference in the world.”

The new members of the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame are: former men’s basketball players Cetric Anderson ’05 and Scott Cook ’06, as well as former wrestler Charlie Pingleton ’12, who will be inducted posthumously. Pingleton is the first wrestler to be inducted into the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame.
