COLUMBIA, KY. -- Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College is expanding educational opportunities to community college students in Knoxville, Tenn.

“This is such an honor for us,” said Roane State Community College President Chris Whaley during the signing ceremony at RSCC’s campus on Friday, Sept. 14. “Many of our students want and need to continue their education. When they are able to transfer the courses they have taken at Roane State to other institutions, it means so much to them and validates their effort.”

Along with Roane State Community College, Pellissippi State Community College signed a partnership agreement in June to make bachelor degrees more accessible through Lindsey Wilson College.

Qualified community college students can transfer up to 60 credit hours from either Roane State or Pellissippi State Community Colleges to LWC. The application process is free, classes begin every eight weeks and there is no out-of-state tuition increase. LWC will also offer scholarship opportunities to current part-time and full-time employees of RSCC and PSCC.

“We’re always looking for new opportunities, new partnerships and new pathways,” said Pellissippi State Community College President Anthony Wise. “One of the things that excites me about connecting with Lindsey Wilson is that it gives us a chance to present another opportunity to our students.”

And Wise says he is grateful to partner with a strong institution like LWC who is continually creating more ways to serve the region.

“Lindsey Wilson has had great success in its own location in Columbia, Ky., and it has also demonstrated that it can provide support for students in five other states,” said Wise. “So we look forward to having the opportunity to talk about Lindsey Wilson, what it has to offer and what’s available through this partnership for our students in Knoxville.”

LWC offers bachelor’s degrees available 100% online in business, criminal justice, human services, and nursing.

“It’s part of our mission to reach out to other areas and we understand the importance of being able to transfer to four-year institutions without obstacles,” said William T. Luckey Jr., who has been president of LWC since 1998. "We’ve worked very hard to develop partnerships that will uncomplicate the process for the students and we intend to provide the comprehensive support needed to ensure the students succeed."

For more than 15 years, LWC has taken its programs to community colleges across Kentucky, Appalachia, and in the states of Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. More than 5,000 LWC degrees have been awarded through Lindsey Wilson’s community college partnership program.

“With a 90 percent four-year graduation rate, the community college system does a great job of preparing students for us because they are so successful,” said Luckey. “We look forward to getting these partnerships launched and helping students earn their bachelor’s degrees at LWC.”

Lindsey Wilson College was founded in 1903 and provides seven degree-granting divisions, offering more than 30 undergraduate and three graduate-level accredited programs in the liberal arts, as well as select pre-professional studies in medicine, law, engineering, pharmacy and dentistry, among others.

The new partnerships mark another milestone for the continued collaboration between Lindsey Wilson College and the Tennessee community college system. LWC developed its first partnership in Tennessee at Volunteer State Community College in 2010.
