Columbia-Adair County to Celebrate Lindsey Wilson University Week Sept. 8-12

LWU Week Proclamation COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The week of Sept. 8-12 will be a celebration of Lindsey Wilson University and Columbia-Adair County.

Sept. 8-12 has been designated as Lindsey Wilson University Week by Columbia Mayor Pam Hoots ’75 and Adair County Judge/Executive Larry Russell Bryant as a celebration of the school’s transition to a university.

“We are fortunate to have Lindsey Wilson University in our community,” said Hoots.

Lindsey Wilson College became Lindsey Wilson University on July 1 to reflect the evolution and growth of the 122-year-old school.

“A big reason Lindsey Wilson has grown and achieved so much is because of the amazing level of support we have received from Columbia-Adair County,” said Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr.

The week will honor the many areas of Lindsey Wilson and its contributions to the community.

Monday, Sept. 8 -- The university’s economic impact on Columbia-Adair County, which is nearly $100 million a year.
Tuesday, Sept. 9 -- A showcase of Lindsey Wilson’s athletic program, which is the most successful intercollegiate athletic program in Kentucky, with more than 120 team and individual national titles.
Wednesday, Sept. 10 -- A focus on the diversity of Lindsey Wilson’s student body, which includes more than 150 students from more than 40 countries, as well as U.S. students from more than two dozen states and 60 Kentucky counties.
Thursday, Sept. 11 -- “Paint The Town Blue,” in which businesses and individuals are encouraged to wear blue, decorate their businesses blue and to inscribe messages to Lindsey Wilson on city sidewalks.
Friday, Sept. 12 -- Campus celebration that will include a visit from Hoots, who will be on campus to talk to students about their journey to Columbia and to the university.
