2010 Homecoming to Make History on Oct. 29-30

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- History will be made Oct.
29-30 at this year's Lindsey Wilson College homecoming.
For the first time in college history, the LWC community will
celebrate homecoming during a football weekend. The previous 78
homecoming weekends were held in conjunction with a home basketball
game.
But with the return of football to LWC after a 75-year absence,
the weekend has been moved to the football season. This year's
homecoming will be held Oct. 29-30 on the LWC A.P. White Campus.

"We're very excited about partnering this special weekend with
football," said LWC Director of Alumni Relations Randy Burns. "The Lindsey Wilson community has
had some wonderful homecoming weekends. But there is something
special about holding homecoming on a small-college campus with
football."
Because of a 1:30 p.m. CT football game on Oct. 30, this year's
homecoming awards ceremony has been moved to a morning event. At
the ceremony -- which will be held at 9:30 a.m. CT in the Roberta
D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center -- the Lindsey Wilson
National Alumni Association will honor two LWC alumni and one
longtime friend of the college.
The LWC National Alumni Association will present Danny
Rigney of Danville, Ky., of the LWC Class of 1989 with the
Distinguished Alumnus Award, and Kristy Flowers
Poindexter of Burkesville, Ky., of the LWC Class of 2003
with the Outstanding Young Alumna Award. Former LWC staff member
and professor George Kolbenschag of Columbia will
be named an honorary LWC alumnus by the LWC National Alumni
Association.
Although events have been moved to accommodate the football
season, LWC's 2010 homecoming weekend will include several
longstanding popular activities, including: a golf scramble for
alumni and friends, to be held on Oct. 29 at the Pines at Lindsey
Wilson; the 10th-annual Morris Shepherd '53 Ping Pong Tournament,
Oct. 29 in the Cralle Student Union Building; and a performance by
Lindsey Wilson Singers alumni at the Oct. 30 homecoming awards
ceremony.
"This weekend is not just a celebration of Lindsey Wilson
College and its alumni, but it's also a celebration of Lindsey
Wilson's partnership with the community," Burns said. "We've
included several events that are open to the general public because
it's important for the entire region to celebrate this college and
the people who have been a part of it over the years."
Other community-oriented activities include the third-annual
"Running with the Blue Raiders 5K Run," which gets under way at 8
a.m. CT on Oct. 30 near the Doris and Bob Holloway Health &
Wellness Center; the inaugural Helen Flatt Alumni Art Show, which
will be held throughout the weekend in the Norma & Glen Hodge
Center for Discipleship; and "Family Fun Time" from 9 a.m.-noon CT
on Oct. 30 in the Campus Quadrangle.
"The 'Family Fun Time' is a very popular event with families in
the area," Burns said. "People can bring their children to the
Campus Quadrangle to take part in activities and also buy lunch for
the day before heading over to the football game."
The crowning of the 2010 LWC homecoming king and queen will be
held at halftime of the football game between LWC and West Virginia
Institute of Technology at Blue Raider Stadium. Kickoff is
scheduled for at 1:30 p.m. CT.
