COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Area children and their
family members are invited to the 23rd-annual Lindsey Wilson
College "Safe Halloween" on Oct. 25.
The annual trick-or-treat event for area children will be held
from 6-8:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 25. It will begin in the Doris
and Bob Holloway Health & Wellness Center, 299 Williams St. The
event, which is sponsored by the LWC Office of Residence Life,
is free and open to the public.
LWC students will escort children and their family members from
the Holloway Health & Wellness Center through four residence
halls. Tours will begin around every five minutes. Children will
receive store-bought, packaged candy from student residents, many
of whom will be dressed in costumes. The tour will take less than
The four residence halls to be featured in this year's "Safe
Halloween" are: Jerry and Kendrick McCandless
Hall, which will be decorated in themes inspired by
various fairytales, but will also include a "Grim Fairytale"
option, which will be mildly scary; Phillips
Hall, which will be decorated in themes inspired by the
children's stories of Wizard of
Oz and Alice in Wonderland and the
films Frozen and Inside Out ; Keefe
Hall, which will be decorated based on the film Harry
Potter; and Horton Complex, which will
include a haunted section.
The tour will end at the campus quadrangle where,
weather-permitting, a children's carnival will be held. The
carnival will include games, activities and pictures with LWC
mascot Blue Raider Bob.
"Lindsey Wilson's 'Safe Halloween' is a way for the college to
engage the community and invite community members to campus," said
LWC Director of Residence Life Jenny Overstreet. "After all
the hard work and dedication we put into this event, the best part
is seeing the faces of the children of the community light up when
they see their favorite cartoon or movie come to life."
Last year's "Safe Halloween" drew more than 800 area children
despite the rainy weather. The children collected candy from LWC
students and toured the residence halls. Overstreet said she hopes
the 23rd edition of the event will be even better.
"We always try and raise the bar each year to try and make it
better for our community members," Overstreet said, "It
definitely fills you with pride knowing that you're giving back and
making a difference to a community that gives so much to LWC."
