COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College community will hold its
annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
The luncheon begins at 11 a.m. CT on Nov. 10, in Roberta D. Cranmer
Dining & Conference Center.
The luncheon is open to veterans and their spouses along with
veterans' widows and widowers. There is no charge to veterans and
their spouses.
This is the seventh consecutive year Lindsey Wilson has held
sponsored the luncheon.
Sponsored by the Lindsey Wilson National Alumni Association, the
purpose of the luncheon purpose "is to recognize and honor everyone
in our region who has served our country -- both during times of
peace and war," said Vice President for Student Services &
Enrollment Management Dean Adams.
This year's luncheon speaker will be Marine veteran Lukas C. Dwelly
of Louisville.
Currently director of major gifts for the University of Louisville
School of Medicine, Dwelly graduated from Nelson County (Ky.) High
School on a Friday night and then reported to the Marine Corps
Recruiting Depot in Paris Island, S.C., the following Monday
morning.
During his four years of service, Dwelly served as an elite recon
Marine and deployed as an infantry squad leader aboard the USS
Guam, where he participated in support of military operations in
the Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the Persian Gulf.
Toward the end of his enlistment, Dwelly controlled classified
materials for the Sixth Marine Regiment, arranging daily briefings
for top-ranking military leaders. He obtained the rank of sergeant
and was awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the
Good Conduct Medal, two Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals and two
letters of Letters of Commendation for operational leadership.
Dwelly was also honored as the Non-Commissioned Officer for the
Sixth Marine Regiment from October-December 1998.
"We began this luncheon back in 2003 as part of the college's
centennial celebration, and it has quickly become one of the more
popular events we sponsor for the community each fall," Adams said.
"We intentionally do not hold the event on Veterans Day because we
don't want to interfere with other community events. For the
Lindsey Wilson community, this day gives our students, faculty and
staff an opportunity to give thanks to those who have served our
country."
The luncheon is free to all veterans, veterans' survivors and a
guest. Veterans should RSVP by calling Lindsey Wilson at
info@lindsey.edu or (270) 384-8400.
