LWC Honors Veterans During the 15th Annual Veterans Appreciation luncheon

COLUMBIA, KY - More than 150 area veterans and their guests were honored Wednesday at the 15th-annual Lindsey Wilson College Veterans Appreciation Luncheon. More than 20 LWC students were in attendance at the event to greet, serve and assist the veterans and their families during the luncheon.

Dean of Students, Chris Schmidt says that this event has become a highlight at LWC.

“This has become one of the best days we have on campus,” said Schmidt. “We have the opportunity to remember and honor those men and women who served our country. Today we have the opportunity to say thank you for your service.”

Major Paul Smith, a retired Marine Corps Veteran, the guest speaker at the event, says that he believes there is no greater honor than earning the title of a veteran.

“You as a veteran soldier stand for a tradition that has no shortcuts,” said Smith. "You can’t buy your way into the service. Once in you can lie, cheat, or steal your way up. You should be proud of the title not because it was given to you, but because you earned it. And because you earned it, why do you not show this pride every day?”
