Longtime Educator Philip Yoho Named Director of Graduate Business Studies at Lindsey Wilson College

COLUMBIA, KY. -- Philip Yoho has been named Director of Graduate Business Studies at Lindsey Wilson College.
Yoho comes to LWC from Pasco-Hernando (Flor.) State College where he specialized in design and curriculum development of new academic programs in business, supervision and management.
“I have been in higher education for more than 18 years. The three previous institutions I worked for hired me to start new business programs from scratch.”
Yoho will take on the responsibilities previously shared by faculty in the LWC School of Business.
“I’m the first full-time employee in this role. Until now, the duties have been shared by business faculty. With the anticipation of the college growing, LWC felt the time was right to add a full-time person.”
Yoho’s first order of business will be to breathe new life into the online Master in Business Administration (MBA) program.
“Initially, I have spent time looking at ways to improve acceptance to the program,” said Yoho. “We are making the entrance requirements easier. In the past we’ve required four years of work experience -- which prevents students who have just earned their bachelor’s degrees from pursuing an MBA. I want it to be smoother for a student to get in and get out.”
Yoho is a native of Middlebourne, West Virginia. He earned his undergraduate business degree from Fairmont (W. Va.) State University, his master’s from West Virginia University and his doctorate from Northcentral (Ariz.) University.
“Two of the main reasons I was attracted to LWC is that I understand the culture and the students. This is like home for me. I grew up in a small town. I also understand the environment of a small, private college and the specific challenges we face.”
Yoho, who has an extensive background with the community college system in Florida, says he is excited to bring his experience to LWC’s community college partnership program.
“Working with community colleges is a whole different world -- but LWC has managed its relationships well and has a great reputation among its peers.”
And Yoho is taking that partnership spirit out to the local industry and businesses of the communities served by LWC.
“Industry is the next market for our program. There are so many industries that want their workforce to be educated. They welcome us in because not only do we provide tuition discounts, scholarships and access to online programs but, more importantly, we have proven that our commitment to them is long term. When we go to them, they want to talk to us.”
Yoho says that he is the most encouraged by LWC’s growth opportunities and what is coming next.
“I look at the potential as exciting. I see the future of Lindsey Wilson as very bright and promising. It’s going to look a lot different in the future. At the same time, we are going to keep the same student-focused mission and philosophy that people have grown to expect from this college.”
Yoho and his wife, Tammy, have two sons: Isaac, 20, who attends the University of South Florida and Andrew, 18, who will be attending LWC in the fall and playing football. They look forward to making their home in the Columbia-Adair County community.
