Counseling Services Offered

The School of Professional Counseling facilities are established as training and research facilities.  The individuals providing counseling services to clients at any of the Counseling Services facilities are typically graduate students in the School of Professional Counseling (working under the licensed supervision of full-time doctoral faculty) and others approved by the Director of Clinical Services & Training.

The School of Professional Counseling facilities offer confidential services for a variety of concerns, including:

  • stress management
  • career counseling
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • relationships
  • life problems
  • adjusting to college life
  • grief & loss

Types of Services:

  • First Intake Interview
The first intake interview session will last approximately 90 minutes to gather a variety of information about the client's needs and interests
  • Individual Therapy
One-on-one counseling between the client and the therapist for approximately 50 minutes, typically on a weekly basis (depending on the client's needs).
  • Couples/Marriage Therapy*
Counseling between one (or two) counselors and a couple (significant others/partners, spouses, etc.).  These sessions last for approximately 50 minutes, typically on a weekly basis (depending on the clients' needs).
  • Family Therapy*
Family sessions involve all, or as many as possible/necessary, members of the family.  The counselors will help the family members work through any problems that are related to family functioning and communication.  Sessions may last from 50 to 90 minutes depending on the number of clients involved.
  • Group Therapy*
Group therapy sessions involve several clients to talk about a topic that they all share in common.  Group therapy sessions are offered on an as-needed basis, so please inquire to learn what groups may be occurring or to express your interest in participating.  Group sessions last for approximately 90 minutes, typically on a weekly basis.
  • Child/Play Therapy*
The Center for Counseling Services at Columbia, KY, is also affiliated with the Appalachian Play Therapy Center and offers child/play therapy sessions for children and adolescents.  Child/play therapy sessions typically last for 40 minutes and occur on a weekly basis.

* Please note that all of our services may not be available at all campus locations.  Also, the services available at each campus location are always available for students of Lindsey Wilson College, but may not be available to members of the local community.  If you have any questions regarding whether particular services are offered, please inquire when calling to schedule an appointment.
