Counseling Services Offered
The School of Professional Counseling facilities are established
as training and research facilities. The individuals
providing counseling services to clients at any of the Counseling
Services facilities are typically graduate students in the
School of Professional Counseling (working under the licensed
supervision of full-time doctoral faculty) and others approved
by the Director of Clinical Services & Training.
The School of Professional Counseling facilities offer
confidential services for a variety of
concerns, including:
- stress management
- career counseling
- anxiety
- depression
- relationships
- life problems
- adjusting to college life
- grief & loss
Types of Services:
- First Intake Interview
The first intake interview session will last
approximately 90 minutes to gather a variety of information about
the client's needs and interests
- Individual Therapy
One-on-one counseling between the client and the
therapist for approximately 50 minutes, typically on a weekly
basis (depending on the client's needs).
- Couples/Marriage Therapy*
Counseling between one (or two) counselors and a couple
(significant others/partners, spouses, etc.). These
sessions last for approximately 50 minutes, typically on
a weekly basis (depending on the clients' needs).
- Family Therapy*
Family sessions involve all, or as many as
possible/necessary, members of the family. The counselors
will help the family members work through any problems that
are related to family functioning and communication.
Sessions may last from 50 to 90 minutes depending on the number of
clients involved.
- Group Therapy*
Group therapy sessions involve several clients to talk
about a topic that they all share in common. Group therapy
sessions are offered on an as-needed basis, so please inquire to
learn what groups may be occurring or to express your interest in
participating. Group sessions last for approximately 90
minutes, typically on a weekly basis.
- Child/Play Therapy*
The Center for Counseling Services at Columbia, KY, is
also affiliated with the Appalachian Play Therapy Center and offers
child/play therapy sessions for children and adolescents.
Child/play therapy sessions typically last for 40 minutes and occur
on a weekly basis.
* Please note that all of our services may not be
available at all campus locations. Also, the services
available at each campus location are always available for students
of Lindsey Wilson College, but may not be available to members of
the local community. If you have any questions regarding
whether particular services are offered, please inquire when
calling to schedule an appointment.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much do services cost?
Services are offered free of charge to all LWC
students and to community members. No health insurance or payment
of fees is needed.
Are services confidential?
All services are confidential, abiding by American Counseling Association Code of
Ethics, state laws, and federal laws. Any unique exceptions to
this will be explained verbally and in writing by your
therapist.
