It is the mission of the Office of Sustainability to promote a culture of sustainability at LWC, integrating principles of ecological integrity and social equity into academics, practices, and partnerships. Our goal is to ensure that LWC is an institution that provides innovative solutions to global challenges, prepares students as engaged and responsible citizens, and observes best practices in campus operations and services.

What is Sustainability?

Simply put; It is Living, Working and Learning in an environment that we commit to maintain and improve for future generations.

The Vision

That Lindsey Wilson College will become a recognized leader among institutions of higher learning through its consideration and inclusion of sustainable practices and principles. This commitment will be readily evident throughout the institution's curricular and co-curricular offerings, its business and financial practices, and its phsical plant operations.

Student Engagement at LWC encourages student involvement in all green initiatives across the institution. The LWC Energy Club, a new student club on campus, will dedicate time and expertise to our ongoing projects.

The functions of the Office of Sustainability include:

• Manage internal and external communications about sustainability efforts and foster information sharing among campus and regional community members.
• Engage campuswide stakeholders to develop policy and to identify and implement best practices to institutionalize sustainability principles and goals.
• Encourage cross-campus collaboration and partnerships, bridging academics and operations using the campus as a living laboratory where ideas can be practically implemented.
• Develop education and awareness outreach materials, programs and projects.
• Provide a clearinghouse of information and resources relating to sustainability.
• Track and Report progress with measurable indicators and communicate that progress through eventual production of an annual LWC Sustainability Report.
• Advise leadership on issue relating to sustainability in conjunction with the forming of an LWC Sustainability Committee.
• Promote and Celebrate LWC sustainability initiatives and successes.
