Library Policies and Procedures




Circulation Policy

  • Books are checked out for a period of three weeks (21 days).
  • DVDs and CDs are checked out for a period of one week (7 days).
  • Laptops may be checked out for two week (14 days). Overdue laptops will be charged $1.00 per day for every day overdue.
  • Items may be renewed after their due dates. Items DO NOT have to be brought to KML to be renewed. You can renew materials by calling the circulation desk, emailing the library, or stopping by the circulation desk.
  • Items not returned within one week after finals are billed to the LWC Business Office.

The Mission of Katie Murrell Library

    The mission of the Katie Murrell Library is to provide access to information resources, collections, technology, and services which have been selected and designed to support the education, and teaching/research needs of the Lindsey Wilson College community, and to provide the active instruction, assistance, and guidance needed to locate, evaluate, and use these resources and services.

Food & Drink Policy

  • Drinks are permitted in secure containers -- i.e. screw-top bottles, sports bottles.
  • Food is NOT permitted in the Katie Murrell Library.

Noise

  • All patrons are asked to respect those around by keeping noise levels down. Cell phones should be turned to "Silent" and headphones are to be used at a low volume level.
  • Cell phones conversations are not allowed in the library.
  • Patrons being loud or disruptive will be asked to leave the library.

Wireless

  • The Katie Murrell Library is equipped to allow patrons to wirelessly connect to the internet network. Simply log into the network from your device using your myLWC login credentials.

Laptops

  • A limited number of laptops (with chargers and cases) are available for check-out to LWC students.
  • You cannot print from the laptops. You must log in to one of the library Windows desktop computers to print.
  • Laptops may be checked out for a period of two weeks. Overdue laptops will incur a $1.00 per day fine for every day overdue.
  • Regardless of when they were checked out, laptops must be returned no later than the LAST DAY of the SEMESTER. Any laptops not returned by that day will incur a fine of the cost of the laptop, charger, and case on their student bills.
  • Policy regarding laptop check-out over winter and summer breaks:
    • AVAILABLE to students enrolled in a course. Students MUST provide proof of enrollment.
    • UNAVAILABLE to students not enrolled in a course.

Study Rooms

General Information
  • Study rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Preference is given to groups of students. Individuals may use the rooms, but they may be asked to leave if a group needs it.
  • Individual study carrels are available for students throughout the library.
  • White board markers and erasers are available for check out from the circulation desk.
Reservations
  • Study rooms are open to students UNLESS previously reserved.
  • Reserved times take precedent.
  • Reservations must be made 12 hours before requested time at the circulation desk.
  • Reservations are primarily for groups.


Instruction/Computer Lab Policy

  • The Instructional Lab is open as a computer lab for individual students if it is not reserved for a class or a training session.
  • Group use of the Instructional Lab without faculty/staff supervision requires approval of library staff.
  • All reservations are listed on the white board next to the door. Please check before you enter.
  • The printer for the Instructional Lab is located at the circulation desk.
  • The Instructional Lab opens at 7 AM and closes at 5 PM Monday through Friday and is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Computer Etiquette

  • Library computers are designated for research, learning, and classroom assignments. All uses must fall under the college's "Acceptable Use Policy" published in the LWC Student Handbook. (Click here to read the LWC Student Handbook.)
  • If you engage in frivolous or excessive personal use of a library computer and another student needs one for research or class assignments, you may be asked to yield to that student.
  • When using headphones, keep the level down so only you can hear them.
  • When working at a library computer, please work quietly. Loud laughter, shouting, and even normal conversational levels may be disturbing to others who come to the library for a quiet study setting.

Printing, Copying and Scanning

  • All desktop computers in the library print to the printer room.
  • You cannot print from the laptops. KML does not offer wireless printing.
  • You cannot add the printer to your personal computer or laptop.
  • At the beginning of every semester, students have $20 in a designated Papercut printing account. Black and white prints cost $0.10 (10¢) per page and color prints are $0.20 (20¢) per page. If a student's Papercut account runs out, money can be added to the account by library staff.
  • KML only accepts cash, coin, or checks as payment for printing or adding funds to a patron's Papercut account.

Room Reservations

Study Rooms
  • Study rooms are open to students UNLESS previously reserved.
  • Reserved times take precedent.

Instruction / Computer Lab
  • Only faculty and staff can reserve the instruction / computer lab.
Conference Room
  • If students want to reserve the conference room, please contact the library.

Clark Reading Room
  • If students want to reserve the Clark Reading Room, please contact the library.
  • If faculty and staff want to reserve the Clark Reading Room, please contact the library.

Juvenile Literature & Curriculum Room/Closed Stacks

  • The Juvenile Literature & Curriculum Room is a special collection, primarily used by education majors. It contains children's books and curriculum materials. You must sign in when using the room.
  • The Curriculum Room opens at 7:00 am closes at 5pm Monday through Friday, but can be opened by KML staff after this time.
  • If you cannot find a particular YA novel, it may be in our Pop Culture section by the KML entrance.
  • In addition to our Government Documents, Closed Stacks contain back issues of newspapers, magazines, music CDs, and audio books. These areas are restricted to KML staff. Should you need materials from the Closed Stacks, library staff will retrieve them for you.
