Students take 2 classes each semester, year-round (fall, spring and summer). Each class is 16 weeks in length. Students attend class on the Columbia, KY campus one Friday and Saturday each month for a total of 32 in-class contact hours per course. Online learning and distance technology tools are used to bridge each monthly meeting.

What kinds of mentoring and advising processes are available?

Each student participates in an advising committee comprised of program faculty and students from each cohort in the program. This allows incoming students to learn from program faculty as well as students who are further along in their studies. From the first semester, students have opportunities to co-author and co-present with program faculty.

Can graduates from non-CACREP accredited master's programs apply to the CES program?

Yes. Individuals from non-CACREP counseling programs may apply. In addition, individuals from counseling-related disciplines (social work, psychology, school counseling, marriage and family, etc...) may apply. Prior to admission to the program, a transcript evaluation is conducted. Applicants missing essential coursework may be required to take additional coursework as part of their plan of study if deficits are identified.
Is there a dissertation requirement

Yes. Students gradually identify a research topic, literature review, and research design as part of the research track in the program. This tiered approach supports students in getting to the proposal stage of the dissertation process quickly. Once their comprehensive exams are complete, students schedule a proposal defense and begin data collection, completing the dissertation process in their fourth year of study.
What kinds of financial assistance is available?

One graduate assistantship is available for each entering cohort. These assistantships require 10 hours of work per week and provide a 50% tuition waiver.
