Why Choose Theatre?

Here Is Why

In the Lindsey Wilson Theatre program an emphasis is placed on providing a strong, liberal-arts foundation for all students so they can appreciate the world from diverse points of view. The program will assist students in developing effective communication skills that can be applied to any career they choose now or in the future.

IMPROVISATION

Theatre teaches how to think quickly and make decisions all while appearing cool, calm, and collected. This is a useful toot when things don't go quite as planned.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

A play is essentially a business project. Smaller teams work together to create one team working to reach deadlines, stay on budget and get the applause after opening.

WHY MAJOR IN THEATRE?

Theatre isn't exactly known for it's large budgets. Developing a show on a shoestring budget forces you to be creative with money and resources to achieve desired results.

BUDGETS

Theatre isn't exactly known for it's large budgets. Developing a show on a shoestring budget forces you to be creative with money and resources to achieve desired results. (Corporate Managers will tell you this is their entire job)

DIVERSE WORK ENVIRONMENTS

Theatre brings together people from all walks of life. Working with these people will teach you to understand and effectively communicate with a widely diverse group of people.

HARD WORK

Theatre can require some sleepless nighte, burnt fingers, paint covered clothes and long work days all to tear it down and start over. This is the same with every project in the workplace.

MAKING DIFFICULT CHOICES

Do we cast the right person for the part or our friend? Do we stick to the plan or adjust due to circumstances? What battles are worth fighting? Theatre teaches you how to make choices like this every day.

PRESENTATION SKILLS

Being able to effectively and confidently convey a message while also being entertaining is a cornerstone of most industries, but particularly the Theatre industry.

DOING THE BEST YOU CAN

You won't always have a full set, costumes, make-up or props, but you can still create a compelling piece of theatre. This is true in other worlds as well when dealing with limited resources and time.

UNDERSTANDING THE HUMAN CONDITION

Developing a character requires a deep understanding of their world and life. The same can easily be said about understanding clients and co-workers.

DOING WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE

Small college theatre requires you to do a bit of everything from design, to PR, to preforming. You'll soon learn you can do almost anything you're tasked with.
