Agribusiness - Student Learning Outcomes


AGBS 2003 – Rural Development (3 credit hours)
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
  1. Describe key concepts, trends, and challenges related to rural development and community sustainability.
  2. Analyze the role of agriculture and agribusiness in supporting rural economic and community development.
  3. Explain how policies, institutions, and local initiatives influence rural communities and development outcomes.
SLOs will be assessed through case studies, applied projects, and exams.

AGBS 3003 – Farm & Agribusiness Management (3 credit hours)
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
  1. Analyze farm and agribusiness operations to evaluate management decisions related to production, labor, finance, and risk.
  2. Apply management tools and financial information to develop effective strategies for improving farm or agribusiness performance.
  3. Assess the impact of managerial decisions on farm sustainability, profitability, and rural community viability.
SLOs will be assessed through case studies, applied projects, and exams.

AGBS 3013 – Agricultural Marketing & Supply Chains (3 credit hours)
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
  1. Analyze agricultural markets and supply chain structures to identify factors influencing pricing, demand, and product movement.
  2. Apply marketing principles and supply chain concepts to develop strategies for agricultural products and agribusiness firms.
  3. Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and supply chain decisions in enhancing competitiveness, value creation, and rural economic sustainability.
SLOs will be assessed through market analysis projects and exams.

AGBS 3023 – Agricultural Technology & Information Systems (3 credit hours)
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
  1. Explain the function and application of agricultural technologies and information systems used in farm and agribusiness operations.
  2. Apply data-driven tools and technologies to support management and operational decision-making in agricultural enterprises.
  3. Evaluate the benefits and limitations of agricultural technologies in relation to efficiency, sustainability, and economic performance.
SLOs will be assessed through technology applications, labs, and exams.

AGBS 3033 – Food Systems & Supply Chain Analysis (3 credit hours)
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
  1. Analyze food systems and supply chain components using systems-based frameworks.
  2. Evaluate strengths, weaknesses, and risks within food supply chains, including disruptions and inefficiencies.
  3. Apply analytical tools to propose strategies that improve food system resilience, sustainability, and performance.

AGBS 4033 – Agricultural Policy (3 credit hours)
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
  1. Analyze agricultural policies to determine their economic, social, and environmental impacts on farms, agribusinesses, and rural communities.
  2. Evaluate policy alternatives using evidence-based reasoning and stakeholder perspectives.

AGBS 4053 – Agribusiness Issues (3 credit hours)
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
  1. Analyze current and emerging issues influencing agribusiness and agricultural systems.
  2. Evaluate competing perspectives and evidence related to complex agribusiness challenges.
  3. Communicate informed analyses and reasoned positions on agribusiness issues using appropriate professional and academic standards.

AGBS 4093 – Agribusiness Capstone Seminar (3 credit hours)
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
  1. Integrate concepts from agribusiness management, marketing, policy, and technology to address complex agricultural problems.
  2. Develop and present a comprehensive, applied project or analysis relevant to a farm or agribusiness setting.
  3. Demonstrate professional communication, critical thinking, and ethical reasoning appropriate for careers or graduate study in agribusiness.
SLOs will be assessed through a Capstone project and presentation.
