Student Letter - Undergraduate Students

Dear Undergraduate Student,

We hope and pray that you and your family have escaped the coronavirus. You have certainly been in our thoughts and prayers.

We are pleased to inform you that you will receive an emergency cash grant of $[insert amount]. Please continue reading for more information.

To address the pressing financial need of students due to the disruption of campus operations from COVID-19, the federal government approved the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The Act provides federal aid to institutions of higher education to help students cover specific expenses (i.e., food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, childcare) due to the disruption.

The funds will be disbursed to you in the form of an emergency cash grant to help offset the expenses referenced above. The College expects to release these funds to you as soon as the funds are received at the College. We are anticipating receiving the funds from the Department of Education within the next two weeks. At this time, we do not have an estimate of when you will receive the funds but we will process the direct deposits and checks as soon as possible.

You are encouraged to sign up for direct deposit on the myLWC Opt-in page by May 8 to receive your emergency cash grant the quickest. If the College does not have any direct deposit information by May 8, a check will be sent to your mailing address. You may update your mailing address here.

Note: We understand that this emergency cash grant is currently considered as taxable income. Higher education consortiums are currently working with lawmakers and the IRS in an effort to correct this and make it non-taxable. We advise you to consult with a tax advisor when completing your 2020 tax return.
