Lindsey Wilson College Has Been Named A National College of Distinction

COLUMBIA, KY. -- Lindsey Wilson College has been named a national College of Distinction. The award recognizes American higher education institutions for their commitment to the implementation of high-impact educational practices and student-centered teaching.

The college was also named a Kentucky College of Distinction and an Abound: Finish College for the college’s work with adult outreach programs. In addition, LWC earned program-specific recognition in the fields of business, education and nursing.

“We are absolutely thrilled to recognize Lindsey Wilson as a College of Distinction for its effective dedication to student success,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer for Colleges of Distinction. “Colleges of Distinction is so impressed with LWC’s curriculum, which is enriched with the kind of High-Impact Educational Practices that are most crucial for student development. Such innovative engagement is preparing the next generation of young adults to thrive after college.”

The College of Distinction selection process includes a review of each institution’s freshman experience and retention rates, alumni success, strategic plan and student satisfaction, among other factors. Schools are accepted on the basis of meeting requirements in four categories, including student engagement, teaching, community and outcomes.

“Colleges of Distinction is far more than a ranking list of colleges and universities,” said Schritter. “We seek out the schools that are wholly focused on the student experience, constantly working to produce graduates who are prepared for a rapidly changing global society. Now recognized as a College of Distinction, Lindsey Wilson College stands out in the way it strives to help its students to learn, grow and succeed.”

Assistant Vice President of Educational Outreach for Online and Graduate Programs Tommie Saragas says the student-focused mission of College of Distinction aligns with the mission of Lindsey Wilson College.

“These distinctions are a direct nod to the incredible efforts of the faculty and staff who serve the students at LWC,” said Saragas. “We hope the endorsements, both globally and program-specific, will communicate to incoming students that LWC is committed and focused on student success.”

Saragas also says the Abound: Finish College distinction recognizes LWC’s dedication to helping adult-learners earn or finish a college degree.

“More than 5,000 degrees have been awarded through our extended partnership programs and a large number of those degrees have been earned by adult-learners,” said Saragas. “The Abound distinctions recognize our commitment to providing pathways and support services for adult-learners at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Colleges of Distinction organization has honored schools throughout the U.S. for their excellence in higher education for nearly 20 years. The cohort of schools in the Colleges of Distinction consortium distinguish themselves through their focus on the undergraduate experience.

Abound: Finish College is part of the Abound college guidance system for degree-seeking adults.
