Candlelight Service to Remember Fallen Classmate, Teammate


candlelight serviceCOLUMBIA, KY. -- Members of the Lindsey Wilson College community will gather Wednesday evening to remember a student and teammate who died in a car accident on Sunday, Jan. 19, during a head-on collision in LaRue County, Ky. 

The candlelight service for D'Jharriah A. Davis, known as DJ, will be held at 8:30 p.m. CT, Wednesday evening in the Norma and Glen Hodge Center for Discipleship. Davis, a psychophysiology freshman from Lexington, Ky., was a member of the women’s track & field team. She was 18. 

“We are deeply saddened to learn of DJ’s death,” said LWC President William T. Luckey Jr. “I ask that you please join me in extending our most sincere thoughts and prayers for DJ’s family, friends and teachers touched by this heartbreaking loss.” 

Director of Blue Raider track & field programs and cross country head coach Nick Wilson said Davis was a wonderful person and an important member of the track & field program.

Our staff knew without a doubt that DJ had tremendous potential as a student athlete and we had only just begun to see her full talent. I extend my condolences to her family and friends. DJ will be missed and remembered.” 

A Celebration of life for DJ will be held at House of God - 866 Georgetown Street, Lexington, Kentucky 40508 on Sunday, January 26, 2020. Visitation will be from 11 am to 12 PM with the funeral following. Following the funeral she will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Paris, Kentucky.

College officials said one other LWC student was hospitalized after the crash and remains in critical condition. The student’s family has requested privacy.
