Lindsey Wilson freshman Jean Charles of Fairburn, Ga., died on Friday, Jan. 24 at a Louisville hospital. Charles was a communication major and a member of the Blue Raider Track & Field team. He was 19.

The candlelight service for Jean Charles will be held at 8:30 p.m. CT, Wednesday, Jan. 29, in the Norma and Glen Hodge Center for Discipleship.

The first fatality, D’Jharriah Davis, 18, of Lexington, Ky., was a psychophysiology freshman at LWC. She was also a member of the Blue Raider Track & Field Team. More than 160 LWC students attended the candlelight service held for Davis last week.

“The deaths of these two students have been devastating to the Lindsey Wilson College community,” said LWC Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management Dean Adams. “Let us continue to pray for the families of these students and our entire Lindsey Wilson college family.”

Director of Blue Raider track & field programs and cross country head coach Nick Wilson said Charles was a tremendous talent and a fierce competitor.

Jean CharlesOur staff had big plans for him from the very beginning,” said Wilson. “He did not waste any time with his goals by hitting the automatic national standard for the 60 meter hurdles at the first meet of the year.”

Wilson went on to say that Charles’s upbeat demeanor and positive attitude resonated with everyone associated with the team.

“Jean had a warm personality and was an incredible teammate,” Wilson said. “The team was uplifted by his positive and friendly attitude on a daily basis. I extend my condolences to his family and friends. Jean will forever be a Blue Raider.”

Funeral services for Charles will be announced via the college’s website and social media accounts.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Jean’s family, teammates, friends and coaches during this extremely difficult time,” said LWC Athletic Director Willis Pooler. “Our focus is to support our student-athletes as they cope with the loss of another teammate.”
