Lindsey Wilson College Confers 409 Degrees at Winter Commencement

COLUMBIA, KY. – Lindsey Wilson College held its 114th commencement ceremony on Saturday. The first half of the Class of 2022 included the largest cohort to graduate from LWC’s doctorate of philosophy in counselor education and supervision program. The class also included LWC’s first-ever graduates from the master of science in technology management program.

“The growth of these programs speaks to the entrepreneurial spirit thriving today at Lindsey Wilson College,” said LWC President William T. Luckey Jr., “It’s this mission-driven spirit that propels LWC forward. We challenge ourselves daily to be purposeful in service and innovative in problem-solving.”

The LWC doctorate of philosophy in counselor education & supervision program awarded 12 doctorate degrees on Saturday; the program's largest graduating class since its inception in 2014.

“Over the past several years, the CES program has been building momentum,” said LWC Director of Counselor Education & Supervision Jeff Parsons. “We’re seeing the fruit of those labors now, with the increasing number of graduates transitioning into professional roles across the country. It was incredibly gratifying to see so many of these graduates walk the stage today.”

One of those graduates was Lucy Namulemo from Kampala, Uganda. Namulemo’s experience while working on her master’s degree at LWC motivated her to apply to the school’s young doctoral program.

“Actually, while I was working on my master’s degree in counseling & human development, I had the chance to see the quality of the CES program,” said Namulemo, who is the first international student to graduate from LWC’s doctorate program. “And when I was offered the opportunity to be a part of the doctorate program, I was really grateful. It was a powerful experience. The support and encouragement have been very helpful.”

Namulemo says she plans to take what she has learned during her time at LWC back to Uganda.

“My dissertation was about the prevalence of depression and the social demographic factors affecting people living with HIV in Uganda,” said Namulemo. “My main goal is to go back to my home country with the skills I have gained from Lindsey Wilson and help as many people as I can there.”

LWC’s master of science in technology management program awarded 17 degrees to its first-ever graduating cohort on Saturday. In total, LWC conferred 409 graduate and undergraduate degrees at its 114th commencement ceremony.

“I want to congratulate each one of our graduates on the resilience and hard work that got them here today,” said Luckey. “When faced with ongoing challenges of the pandemic, they have persevered. We are immensely proud of what this class has achieved and who they will become as they go out into the world. Their personal strength has earned them a place in LWC history.”
