'Lunch & Learn' on Sept. 3 to feature Lindsey Wilson University President William T. Luckey Jr. and Adair County Athletic Director Tyler Maskill '21

Luckey and Maskill speak at luncheon COLUMBIA, Ky. (09/02/2026) — Two former college baseball players will be the leadoff speakers of a new Lindsey Wilson University program.

The inaugural "Lunch & Learn," sponsored by the sport performance major, will be held from 11 a.m.-noon CT on Thursday, Sept. 3, in the Rotary Room of the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center.

The speakers will be Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. and Adair County School District Athletic Director Tyler Maskill '21. Both played college baseball, Luckey at Wabash (Indiana) College and Maskill at Lindsey Wilson.

"They will draw from their own experiences playing college baseball to explore one central question behind the program: What skills from the experience of sport can transfer to careers beyond the game?" said Courtney Murray Carter, who is coordinator of the sport performance program and professor of sport management. "Our conversation will consider how experiences in practice, competition, teamwork, leadership, failure, pressure and performance can develop knowledge and transferable skills that extend well beyond athletics."

Sport performance is one of three new majors introduced this fall at Lindsey Wilson. The other two new majors are agribusiness and a 4+1 business administration program that leads to a master of business administration.

Sport performance is an emerging academic discipline that transforms the athletic experience into a rigorous form of academic study by giving student-athletes a way to turn competition into deeper learning.

Sport performance recognizes that sport is more than competition. Grounded in theories of integrative learning, embodied pedagogy, ethical reasoning, intercultural competence and teamwork, sport performance provides students an academic framework in which they critically reflect on their practice, training, rehabilitation and competition experiences.

Sport performance is especially focused on preparing students for careers in the multi-trillion-dollar global sports industry, while also preparing graduates for careers beyond sport.
