Lucretia Chilton Begley has played a vital role in the success of Lindsey Wilson University since 1977. Mrs. Begley graciously served as the First Lady of Lindsey Wilson for more than 20 years. In addition to her decades of volunteer service to the university, Mrs. Begley was a public school teacher, served as a full-time member of the Lindsey Wilson faculty as an art professor, and became a well-known regional artist. Her paintings and pottery have been featured in several exhibitions and have won numerous awards. Her approach to art is best described in a comment she made during an interview: “Deep within each of us lives that creative spirit and that creative spirit is evident in many ways. Through art we reach our highest level of potential and fulfillment.”

During the 1985-86 school year, Mrs. Begley was named curator of the first permanent art gallery in Lindsey Wilson history. In November 1997, the Lindsey Wilson Board of Trustees named the schools art gallery The Lucretia C. Begley Art Gallery in appreciation for her service to art education and regional art in Southcentral Kentucky. In 2005, for her dedication to Lindsey Wilson, education, and her accomplishments as an artist, the Lindsey Wilson faculty and Board of Trustees honored her with a doctorate of fine arts, honoris causa.

We look forward to seeing you in the gallery. Hours are 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. CT Monday-Friday, or by special appointment. For questions or additional information, please contact Kristyne Gilbert at gilbertk@lindsey.edu or 270-384-8007.
