29 Students Receive White Coats and Formally Welcomed into LWC Nursing Program

COLUMBIA, KY - The science and art of nursing was extolled Friday evening, Oct. 5, at Lindsey Wilson College as the latest cohort of nurses was accepted into the college's nursing program.

The 29 students were part of the "Ceremony of Blessing & Transition," held Friday, Oct. 5, in V.P. Henry Auditorium. The students received a white coat to symbolize their official entrance into the program after their hands were blessed by LWC Assistant Chaplain Carol Weddle.

LWC’s Director of Nursing Emiley Button said that she is enthusiastic about celebrating these students and their formal transition from pre-clinical courses to the clinical component of their degree requirements.

“This is an outstanding group of individuals,” said Button during the ceremony. “We are extremely proud of each and every one of them and are excited about their future in the LWC Program of Nursing.”

In August, the LWC nursing program was one of 50 programs to receive funding from The Arnold P. Gold Foundation and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing to host white coat ceremonies for incoming nursing students. LWC held its first white coat ceremony in January 2011.

“The LWC nursing program would like to extend thanks to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the Arnold P. Gold Foundation for a grant that funded the White Coat Ceremony this year,” Button concluded. “We appreciate the Gold Foundation's generous funding of our ceremony.”
