Endowed Scholarship Established For Casey County Students

Mary Baugh ScholarshipCOLUMBIA, KY. -- Annette Reynolds beloved mother always understood the importance of education and wanted to earn a college degree but financial restraints kept her from pursuing her dream.

A new scholarship established in her mother’s memory will assist college-bound students from Casey County who otherwise could not afford a college education.

The Mary Christine Randolph Baugh Endowed Scholarship will provide financial support to students in need from Casey County who want to attend Lindsey Wilson College.

“She valued education and dreamed of becoming a teacher,” said Reynolds. “However, she did not fulfill her dream of a college degree because she could not afford it after high school. My husband, Michael, and I want to help students from her community achieve something that she was never able to do.”

A native of Casey County, Ky., Mary Christine Randolph Baugh graduated salutatorian of her high school class. In 1946, Baugh married Pulaski County World War II veteran, Stanley Baugh. She was an avid reader and instilled a love of reading for Annette and her sister, Evelyn Roy.

“Our mother believed the lessons learned at home were just as important as the lessons we learned in public school,” said Reynolds. “She taught us lessons from the bible and how to prepare and present a proper church lesson or public speech. And she taught us how to manage our money to include tithing and saving for future goals. She also taught etiquette, common courtesy and practical skills like sewing, embroidery and crochet.”

Baugh, who died in 2008, was a lifelong Methodist. For the last 45 years of her life, she was an active member of the Bethelridge United Methodist Church, Bethelridge, Ky. She served in virtually every possible capacity in the church from communion steward to board member.

The Christine Baugh family says this scholarship would have brought great pride to their mother and hopes that it will open a door to a better future for students from her home community.

“We want her memory and legacy to live on through the support of this scholarship in her name.”
