It's Back To School for Lindsey Wilson College

COLUMBIA, KY. -  Lindsey Wilson College students are back on campus for the 2023-24 academic school year.

Monday, August 21 was the first day of classes for the 120-year-old liberal arts college following move-in days that began last week. Athletes and upperclassmen began moving back to Columbia in early August.

Freshmen students unpacked their boxes and bags to move in with help from their families, staff and returning student volunteers.

Nursing student and Bonner Scholar Lindsey Bandy from Edmonton, Kentucky, says she is ready to get the semester started.

“I’m really looking forward to beginning my service with the Camp for Courageous Kids through the Bonner volunteer program,” says Bandy. “I’m also excited to get my nursing classes started and see what it's all about.”

Bandy’s roommate, business administration freshman Pearsyn Ingram from Somerset, Kentucky, is also ready to get the semester started.

“My sister just graduated from LWC in May, so I’m just following in her footsteps,” Ingram said.

As far as advice from her sister about navigating the college experience, Ingram says she has been very helpful.

“She told me to put myself out there, get involved and make new friends,” Ingram said. “I’m excited to be on my own for the first time and meet all kinds of new people."

At the welcome ceremony for new students in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center, incoming Vice President for Academic Affairs Ray Lutgring welcomed the students on behalf of the College faculty.

“I am also a freshman at Lindsey Wilson College,” said Lutgring. “I just started here in July and I hope you are as excited to be here as I am. It’s a very special place. As the person in charge of academics let me say we are going to expect a lot out of you. You are going to be pushed and you are going to do things you didn’t think you could do and you are going to be supported along that entire journey.”

Although official enrollment numbers have not been released, LWC is expecting to surpass last year’s record-breaking enrollment totals by more than 25%.

"This year, we will once again have our largest enrollment on record surpassing 3,800 students,” said Lindsey Wilson College President William T. Luckey, Jr. “We are seeing students come to us from all over the country, across the globe and just down the street. It’s an exciting time at Lindsey Wilson.”
